Cosmetic plastic surgery

Every time I hear somebody mention cosmetic surgery, the first thing that comes to mind is the image of famous actors, actresses and musicians who have gone under the knife as it is popularly known. Some people may consider it to be normal while for others it is a serious issue which they would never allow themselves to go through just to look prettier than the way they were born. The difference between normal surgery and cosmetic surgery is that in plastic surgery; surgery is only done for medical reasons when someone’s life is in danger to save them, or to alleviate pain or discomfort caused by a disease, birth defect, tumor, developmental abnormally, or to do reconstruction of body tissues which could have been damaged through trauma like a road accident or serious burns. Cosmetic surgery on the other hand is only done for beauty purposes to enhance one’s physical looks. The motivation for many people to do cosmetic surgery is usually their need to achieve a certain degree of their own beauty standards. People who go through cosmetic surgery are believed by most psychiatrists to be individuals who suffer from low self esteem. Because their need to alter their physical appearance means they are not satisfied with their true selves.

When it comes to cosmetic surgery, there are many complications that can happen which can spoil the whole procedure. This is because doctors have to be very careful and must do exactly what they had planned to bring out the best results which suit the preference of their patient. Some of the procedures done to people in cosmetic surgery are like, breast implants to make the breast larger (augmentation mammoplasty) or make them smaller (reduction mammoplasty), removing pockets of fat from some parts of the body (liposuction), and reshaping of the nose (rhinoplasty). There are very few doctors out there who can confidently say that they are experts in cosmetic surgery because in many countries, United States included, there are no residency programs given to doctors which exclusively cover cosmetic surgery. This shortage of qualified medical personnel is one of the reasons why it is expensive to go under the cut for cosmetic purposes. It is also one of the reasons why so many cosmetic procedures go wrong since many doctors who are not qualified enough engage in the practice as they search for more money.

There are many people all across the globe who have undergone cosmetic surgery. The number one country in the world where cosmetic surgeries are done most on a yearly basis is United States, followed by Brazil and then China. From the look of things though, it seems China with its growing middle calls will overtake Brazil and United States in the near future. This is because in China, many Chinese people are seeking services of surgeons to achieve the Chinese standards of what is considered to be beautiful or handsome. Most of them are doing this as mere survival tactics in the competitive job market. Chinese employers are known to be very selective of their employees. Most of the times they will hire employees who look more beautiful or handsome over those with work experience but do not have the physical qualities they desire.

Many celebrities have undergone cosmetic surgery. Some have had marvelous results from it like one Angelina Jolie and Pamela Anderson. There are many others who haven’t had that luck though and have ended up with disastrous results which continue to plaque them to this day. They are namely, Nikki Cox, Lil Kim, Jocelyn Wildenstein, Kenny Rogers, just to mention but a few. Many people are opposed to cosmeict surgery but still there are those who passionately love it and would do anything to go under the knife. Kindly contribute to this discussion and lets us know what you think about cosmetic surgery.
